Property Accountant
Potomac, MD
The Property Accountant will be responsible for preparing all financial statements of assigned portfolio, ensuring data integrity of general ledgers and communicating with management, lenders and investors. Responsibilities include analysis of general ledgers, balance sheet and bank reconciliations, calculation of fees, and year-end tax reporting. Accuracy and timeliness in the completion of workload is required in this position along with strong communication and organizational skills, good work ethic and analytical thinking. Property Accountant will report to the Assistant Controller and will work closely with Controller and other members within the organization.
Essential Job Functions:
•Prepares and distributes monthly financial reports, working with Property Managers, Lease Administrators and other staff providing information.
•Analyze general ledger to ensure accuracy.
•Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and other financial supporting schedules.
•Responsible for commercial mortgages payments, regular reporting, escrows, reserves and prepare lender draw requests.
•General and subsidiary ledger maintenance including journal entries and bank reconciliations.
•Review of budgets and other property reporting such as Income & Expense forms.
•Prepares reports/documents for quarterly/annual lender reporting.
•Calculation of monthly management fees based on cash receipts, asset management fees, etc.
•Assists with preparation of documents for audit requests and annual tax filings.
•Record year-end tax entries; depreciation and amortization of fixed assets and leasing commissions.
•Responsible for AP entry and cash disbursement of mortgages, distributions, tax payments, etc.
•Posting of tenant lockbox deposits if applicable.
•Miscellaneous reports and other accounting duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred
•Working knowledge of financial reporting
•Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in accounting, real estate industry experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•Ability to work well in a team environment as well as work independently.
•Self-starter with flexible outlook toward task management and a strong work ethic.
•Excellent communication and analytical skills.
•Meticulous attention to detail
•Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
•Experience using MRI and Nexus payables preferred.
